It gives links to ADB drivers, but I got mine along with the rooting toolkit from the following link and I would recommend going with these:Īfter that I installed Google Play and it ran like a dream. I used Root RK29 Toolkit (while it was in its sort of bricked state I was only getting a backlight and the Proscan title screen before I ran it, so if you've gotten this far and found yourself in a startup loop or something, try running this one). Rooting with Extract Root with Restore by Bin4ry nearly permanently bricked the tablet, I wouldn't try that again on this model I had to bring it back from the brink. This one was the most helpful to me, so I won't C&P it, but there are a couple of notes for this particular device that I think are important: Tutorial for rooting and installing Google Play:

It'll take care of everything itself, but you'll lose your wallpaper (at least I did) and might lose your settings/saves, so backup. The tablet will pick it up as a firmware update and ask if you want to run it.

Here is the firmware update for this model Proscan, RUN IT FIRST to get a decent version of Android to work from: This was the biggest pain in the ass for me, and I only discovered it after a ton of trial and error (and headway I had to wipe and redo). No matter whether you root it or not, it's probably never going to run Google Play without an update of Android itself. I want to install Cyanogen Mod at some point, but this did the trick without having to dick with the ROM too much as it is.

It's too old to run Google Play, nor much of anything else of use. It's a Proscan 8" tablet running on an ancient version of Android. The tablet is a no-name thing from Big Lots that my mother gave me.
PROSCAN TABLET PLT7100G FIRMWARE HOW TO
This post is mostly for my future reference, in case something happens and I need to remember how to do this again, but what the hell, someone googling the process might find it and save them the several days study and hobbling together instructions for other devices that it took me.
